building a basic web page

5. Tables

Tables provide a way of organizing and displaying information on your Web page. A table is made up of a series of rows and columns. A single block of information in a table is called a cell and can contain text, images, lists, form elements, and other tables. In fact, anything that can be placed in an HTML document can be placed in a table cell. You can make the background a different color than the rest of the page.

Select the Insert Table icon from the tool bar. A Table with 4 cells (2 columns and 2 rows will be placed where ever the cursor is - you can move it)

column one - row one

  • column two - row one

column one - row two

  • column two - row two

A window will also open....as on the right.
You may change the number of Rows and/or the number of Columns.

If you do not require the borders to show type 0 in the border box.

If Width and Height settings are left as Auto the Table or Cell size will be determined by the text or image etc in that particular cell. Sizes may also be set by pixels or percentages. Note in the example above the columns are of different Widths as the 2nd Column has a bullet added.

Tables and Cells can also be of a different colour to the background. Select from the Table Color

To adjust the Tables or Cells highlight the table and select the Object Editor . The window above will open.
