This site may not have a snappy title, but this database of lesson plans is a great resource for early childhood and primary school teachers. Dance, music, drama and visual arts lessons have been created by student teachers at CSU Chico.

Mansion Madness: Mystery at Gyppeswyck is a very interesting (and short) mystery where students have to look at the art work from several artists, exploring colour, composition, subject, and style to find out who painted a special portrait. GREAT INTRODUCTION TO ART for stage 2 or 3 students.

The Artist's Toolkit from The Minneapolis Institute of Arts offers the chance to explore the principals and elements of art such as line, color, space, shape, balance, movement and rhythm by watching an animated demonstration, finding examples of the concept in works of art from museums and creating your own composition.

Art Zone

NGA Kids from the National Gallery of Art USA provides several tools that allow users to create art interactively. The site includes:

* a collage machine;

* PixelFace, an interactive portrait maker and drawing board;

* Cubits, a geometric sculpture maker;

* 3-d Twirler, for designing and texturising three-dimensional shapes;

* Diamonds; and

* RiverRun where 'young children orchestrate a flowing array of colorful shapes and patterns.'

In The Memory Project, highly skilled art students create portraits for children living in orphanages around the world. The idea is that children who end up in orphanages tend to have few personal possessions and receiving a portrait of themselves helps to create a bond with their youth, their culture and ultimately, their identity. So, if you are an Art teacher or know of one, perhaps this is a project you might be able to support! Check out the site for samples and more information on how you can participate.
Classroom Architect is Flash-based floor-planning tool which helps the teacher design a floor plan for the classroom. It includes shapes for desks, tables, shelves, and other classroom furniture built to scale. This might make an interesting activity for students who are learning to map out a classroom too. As well, this site includes helpful tips in planning an effective classroom layout to maximize learning and reducing distractions.

Alberta (Canada) teacher Paul Lavery, wrote about his site: "A few years ago while teaching I lost all my school bookmarks in Internet Explorer.  At the same time our board was really starting to stress good old Professional Growth Plans so I decided one way to protect my bookmarks was to put them on a website.  I have been collecting curricular websites (based on Alberta curriculum grades 1-6) for about two years now and putting them on my website.  I think some of your teachers might find it useful, either for themselves or as a starting point for students."
