I am constantly amazed by the new peripherals and apps that are coming onto the market for use in schools. Belkin's idea of merging an interactive whiteboard / screen capture app , document camera, iPad stand into one integrated device/app is an interesting example of what is available to schools. Apart from it's intended use, I can also see value for learners with low vision.

As part of the CAPCreateMe 2012 Network Intiative, 26 students from Riverina Country Areas spent a week in geoquesting in Sydney with 3 teachers and Riverina CAP Consultants Jan Cook and Anne-Maree Moore. Whilst in Sydney our students, as guests of CLIC and Taronga Park Zoo trialled the new 'Rainforest Heroes' app jointly developed by CLIC and the Zoo to experience a professionally made geoquest. They then spent a day as univrsity students at the MACICT Innovations Centre to explore learning design in order to develop their own geoquest using google maps about their excursion. Students have now returned to school to share their learning and to create their own geoquest to support them in hosting virtual excursions around their schools over video conferencing.
Read on to watch a short video of our excursion.

Large numbers of consumers, parents, teachers, therapists and AT professionals purchase mobile and handheld devices and downloading various apps to be used as assistive technology and educational software for people with disabilities. The ability to test and review every app that can be used in this manner is nearly impossible. To aid teachers and AT professionals who may be interested in knowing more about what’s out there, the Maine Department of Education's Maine CITE Program have assembled this resource.
