Project: Maths on the Net
Type: Deniliquin District Initiative

Overview:
Maths on the Net develops mathematical thinking by using technology, maths and problem solving as a means of enhancing communication between students and school communities.
Maths "challenges" are devised by the coordinator, assisted by the District Maths Consultant, and placed on the website. Teams of students from the participating schools attempt to solve the "challenges" and email their responses back

 

 

Implementation

  • Train staff in utilising problem solving strategies and in using email. Invite parents to attend training day.
  • Employ "Maths on the Net" teacher to implement program ie
      coordinate training of children in using email
      assist students in developing problem solving skills
      coordinate problems for teams to solve
  • Purchase "hands-on" maths equipment to support program
  • Schools attend "Maths on the Net" day at Weethalle PS. Teams K-6 participate in a Maths Problem Solving Day.

Implement longitudinal survey and summerise responses.
