Styles and Better Teaching Practice

Barriers:
- students not aware of their learning style
- current teaching not catering for all learners
- staff are isolated from and limited access to T & D on
teaching processes and learning styles
- staff and parents have limited knowledge of teaching models
based on learning and teaching styles
Overview:
This initiative aims to increase student outcomes by
creating a whole school approach to the delivery of lessons which
explicitly address the needs of student learning styles. Through a
planned and ongoing Training and Development program, involving a
workshop presentation on teaching and learning styles and strategies
to calibrate the effectiveness of lesson delivery teachers will:
- develop a better understanding of learning styles
- cater for the different learning styles of their students
- learn effective stategies to use in their teaching and
learning practice
- be critical and reflective of their teaching to confidently
support their colleagues in using teaching stategies which cater
for different learning styles
Implementation
Staff Development Day (all staff)
- highlighting good teaching practice
- presenting cooperative learning processes
- identifying learning styles
- calibration techniques to evealuate teaching effectiveness
Staff Meetings
- Ongoing staff meetings to focus and reflect on teaching
practice, and promote effective strategies and processes being
used in the classroom.
Mentor Program
- Teachers provided with release time to work with another
member of staff to calibrate a lesson, provide feedback to the
teacher and support the teacher in further teaching and learning
planning.
Parent Meeting
- Teachers will present programs to parents.
