Overview

The workshop is targeted at teachers wishing to create high quality learning environments and resources that 21st Century learners will actively engage with. Workshop participants will develop:

  • Understandings about how and why the learner interacts with and processes information in a digital space and
  • Strategies to apply simple digital information design rules to improve engagement and comprehension.

Where can I learn more about digital learning design?

Applying the same paper based content design rules to digital resources and environments is unproductive for both teacher and learner as it sets up the learner for failure and disengagement.  One example is typography, where choosing the appropriate typeface and line spacing can have a 20% increase in reading comprehension!

This workshop builds upon the work of Nielsen J. (Usability design), Norman, D. (Emotional Design), Mayer, R. (Cognitive load theory), Mishra, P. & Koehler, M. J. (TPACK), as well as Puentedura, R.R. (SAMR).
