21st Century Learning - CAPCreateMe2012 Sydney Geoquesting Excursion

In innovative CAPCreateMe2012 Network Initiative, Riverina CAP students are learning to use web2.0 tools to communicate and collaborate with students globally in creating and and sharing their stories.  In the current phase of the project students are using google maps to create a rich geoquest to show off their local schools and communities online as well as conducting their own virtual excursions to allow other students to 'visit' their schools. They are designing their virtual excursion experience utilising the DEC video conferencing equipment and the screen sharing program Bridgit. This experience allows students to take leadership roles in their learning, connect with peers and enable 'visits' to their more remote schools using freely available web2.0 tools such as Edmodo, animoto, vokis and google apps.

The 26 students attending the excursion were chosen for outstanding leadership skills and participation in the project, to experience a professional geoquest and learn the skills of designing a rich learning experience for other students so they can then share these skills and understandings back in the Riverina.

We would like to extend our appreciation to the Taronga Park Zoo and CLIC for hosting us at the Zoo and to Cathie Howe at MACIT Innovations Centre. Also to our supervising staff and finally to our students who were outstanding amabssadors for their schools, the Riverina Region and the Country Areas Program. We received favourable comments on the behaviour and manners of our country students. A fabulous excursion, one we would like to repeat in 2013.
