Escape from Planet Earth

Time is running out! A large asteroid is on a collision course with Earth and the chances of diverting it are slim. The impact of the asteroid will have devastating effects on life on Earth and chances of survival are highly unlikely. It is critical for NASA to find a planet in our Solar System suitable to send a team of people to colonise and possibly save some of our life from Earth.

YOUR TASK:

You have been employed by NASA to find out as much as you can about the nine planets in our Solar System and find the one which would be the most suitable and cost effective to send a team of people to colonise. You will need to come up with a presentation showing NASA of your findings.

STEP 1:

Your first job is to decide what factors are important for people to be able to survive on another planet.

TRY MAKING A LIST!!

You will now need to do some research on each of the planets to help with your presentation. Here is a worksheet to help you collect the relevant information. You may like to start on Earth first so as to compare your information with the other planets. Click here! Tip: adjust your page set-up to print landscape (ie sideways, not up and down).

You may use library resources, encyclopaedias and the internet for your research.

Here are some sites to help with your research and presentation.

STEP 2

Okay, you've found all your information, so what are you going to do with it?

Sit down with some scrap paper and work out roughly what information you are going to present.

What information is relevant?

How you are going to present it?

STEP 3

Now to design your presentation!

Use a PowerPoint program or something similar to produce a slide show of your information.

Keep it simple, informative and concise.

STEP 4

Now, its presentation time. Let's hope our in time to save the SPECIES!!!
