Animals and plants that have things in common are grouped together.
One group of scientists who study plants and animals are called biologists.
Biologists use a strange language called Latin to give plants and animals special names.
You might like to discuss why they don't use the language they usually speak to name animals with a friend.
There are two main groups:
PLANTS ANIMALS
Animals are divided into smaller groups.
Some are groups containing mostly simple animals such as worms, snails, simple shells, jellyfish, sponges,starfish and tiny little animals that have only one cell.
Some of these look a little like tiny transparent fried eggs.
Many people keep pets.
Some people keep pets in the groups above, however most
pets are in the groups of :
JOINT LEGGED ANIMALS - centipedes, millipedes, insects, spiders and relatives and crustaceans. (Have you ever noticed the similarities between spiders and crabs?)
and
ROD BACKED ANIMAL - fish,amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.
