How To Write A Haiku Poem

 

A haiku is a Japanese poem about nature. Each line is made up of three lines.

 

For example:

Fish

Deep beneath the sea

Live some lovely coloured fish

Swimming peacefully

Title: Fish

 

Line 1: Deep beneath the sea ( words add up to five syllables and tell you 'where it is')

 

Line 2: Live some lovely coloured fish (words add up to seven syllables and tell you ' what it is' or 'what it is doing')

 

Line 3: Swimming peacefully (words add up to five syllables and tell you ' when or what is being felt' or 'what is happening' )

 

Task

 

Brainstorm some words about gum trees

 

eg. peaceful swaying colourful wind birds leaves green scrub nests cool dry
