Arch bridges may be made from shaped stone, bricks, concrete or steel. The arch takes the load from the deck of the bridge from the land on both sides. Stone was used in most of the Roman Bridges. Some bridges, like many aqueducts ( carries water) and viaducts (carrying roads) are made up of several arches. Arch bridges are used for spanning large distances.
