The Platypus

The platypus is a mammal and is native to Australia. It has a small body covered in thick brown fur. The platypus has webbed feet and a bill like a duck, it also has sharp claws.

Platypuses live in burrows that they dig close to rivers, streams and lakes.

They are mostly found in eastern Australia.

The platypus can dive down under the water for about 2 minutes to collect food like worms, insects, snails and yabbies.

Platypuses can grow up to 60 centimetres long and weigh about 2 kilograms.

In the wild, a platypus can live until they are 12 years old.
