Elephants

Elephants are the biggest mammals living on land.

There are two types of elephants - African elephants and Indian or Asian elephants.

Elephants are big animals with long noses called trunks. Their thick grey skin is covered with short spiky hair.

Both types of elephants can grow up to 3 metres tall and weigh up to 5 tonnes.

Elephants eat grass, bark, roots and fruit from trees. They drink lots of water everyday.

Indian or Asian elephants live in forests in Asia and African elephants live below the Sahara Desert in bush, forests and on grassy plains.

Elephants live for up to 70 years.
