
Echidnas are mammals, they are special like the platypus because they lay eggs.
Echidnas are covered in hair and lots of sharp spines.
They have no teeth but they do have a long sticky tongue. Echidnas have sharp claws.
Echidnas eat ants, termites and earthworms, they use their sharp claws to dig and tear open ant and termite nests.
Echidnas can grow between 45-90 centimetres and weigh up to 10 kilograms.
Echidnas are found in Australia and Papau New Guinea, in the wild they can live for more than 16 years.
