BATS
Bats are mammals that can fly. They are covered with black, brown, yellow or grey fur.

There are lots of different types of bats, the smallest bat, a hognosed bat grows up to 3 cm long and wings stretch out to 15 cm wide. The biggest bats are flying foxes and they can grow up to 41 cm long and wings stretch out to 2 metres wide.

Most bats like to live in dark places like caves, ruined buildings, under fallen logs and in hollow trees. They usually sleep all day and come out at night to eat.

Bats like to eat fruit and insects and some can catch fish. Vampire bats use their sharp teeth to cut the skin of other animals and birds to suck their blood.

Bats are found in most countries in the world except very cold places like Antarctica.

The average life of a bat is about four years.
