DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS

Rainforests are dark, thick, hot, wet forests. They have millions of plants and animals.
Rainforests are important to the Earth.
Many birds and insects live in the giant trees. On the ground it is a dark and cool environment where many reptiles and mammals live.

The desert is a very dry environment with very little rainfall and temperatures that can be very cold or very hot. There are not many plants or animals that live in the desert.
Some deserts get both very hot during the day and very cold during the night.
Animals that live in the desert have adapted to cope with little water, extreme temperatures and little food.
Many desert animals are nocturnal. They burrow beneath the surface or hide in the shade during the day and emerge at night to eat. Many desert animals do not have to drink at all; they get all the water they need from their food. Most desert animals are small.

Swamps are forested wetlands like marshes, they are often found near rivers or lakes. Some have trees and bushes.
They may have water in them for the whole year or for only part of the year. Swamps and wetlands are home to many birds some reptiles and fish. Many animals come to visit the wetlands for food and water.
