The Hula-Hoop

The hula-hoop was first used in Ancient Egypt.  They were made from grape vines and stiff grass.  They were hit along the ground and swung around the waist.

Wooden hula-hoops were made in Australia in 1957.

Two men from USA saw children twirling these hoops around their waist.  They decided to make plastic hoops to sell as toys.  They used bright colours.

The Hula-hoops are still popular for fun and fitness.
