SPECIAL PLACES - Stage Two Why are certain sites significant to people from different cultural backgrounds?
Throughout history many sites have had special significance to indigenous people from different cultures. Over time some have been lost, destroyed, damaged, or have had their existence threatened. The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) are concerned about the possible loss of world heritage sites.
Groups of concerned people have been invited to present a report to UNESCO on significant sites, their importance to world cultural heritage and the need to preserve them.
