Fish traps were built in rivers and creeks, while others were made by nature. Stone walls were built in the water to trap fish as they swam with the flow of the water. As the water flowed into the traps, the fish swam into feed and were caught as the water either moved out with the tide, or continued its journey down river.

Fish traps were very important because they helped Aboriginal people to have a special place where they could find a regular supply of food.
