You can often tell a camp site by what you find there. At places where traditional Aboriginal people camped you can usually find small pieces of stone tools, tiny rock fragments left over from making the tools and the remains of fires. Middens may be a part of camp sites which show whether it was a work site for making tools or a kitchen site where food was prepared. Camp sites have been found mainly in the open but are also found in cave shelters.
When uncovered, many camp sites have shown Aboriginal people have used that part of the land over thousand of years.
