Wikispace projects
A number of our Country Areas Program schools and teachers have and are developing Wikispaces for their schools, students and colleagues to share information, collaborate on projects and use as a medium to publish their work.
Follow this link to a video on the Commoncraft website which gives you a 'plain english' overview of what wikis are and how they work.
Wikis can be either:
Public - Everyone - including anonymous visitors - can view and edit pages
Protected - Everyone can view pages, only members of this space can edit pages
Private - Only members of this space can view and edit pages
Wikispaces is an organisation that offers free wikis to educators and provides easy access to publishing on the internet (ie you don't need any software, experience or even training). There are many other organisations providing wikis such as PBwiki. It is important to weigh up the relative benefits of what services are provided for free or at a cost.
If you decide to create and use a wiki it is important for NSWDET teachers to ensure that they comply with the web publishing guidelines.
Some useful Wikispaces
NSWCAP and CAP teachers and schools have created a few Wikispaces that you can view:
-
CAP-chatter Web 2.0 wikispace
A Wikispace dedicated to exploring Web 2.0 tools especially for use in education. Join in, try them out and add to our site. There are many links here to a range of Web 2.0 tools plus Educational Wikis - hours of searching here! There is also information on how to set up your page so that it conforms to the DET guidelines and is unblocked for students to access it at school.
-
Interactive White Board wikispace
A new but growing site for teachers to share their lesson plans and ideas on using IWBs.
-
CAP Northern Network 2008 Wikispace
This space is designed to provide information to participants in various projects.
We are also keen to create opportunities for participants to interact and also to provide feedback on the various major projects for the year.
-
South Eastern CAP Network Wikispace -
We hope you will find this a valuable space to share professional dialogue, keep you abreast of what is happening in our CAP Network, but most of all a space which will provide an opportunity for to share the great practices in our classrooms and schools.
